Bookworm Blogging, Weekly Wrap-Ups

Weekly Wrap – 15 Jun – 21 Jun

Hi all, I’ve decided to start doing a weekly wrap-up just for fun! I intend to use the WWW Wednesday format but will be doing these on Monday as a Monday-Sunday week makes the most sense to me.

Currently Reading

Nightmares & Dreamscapes; I started re-reading this about a month ago but have set it aside for the moment. I’m keeping it on my CR just so I remember to pick it back up again!

How to Be an Antiracist; At the time of writing this, I’m only 6% in but enjoying the writing and the content so far!

Recently Finished

Middlegame; This was part of a buddy read of Hugo nominees that Hadeer set up with a few other people on Twitter. We’ve been doing it very casually, which is my favorite way to do buddy reads! I ended up giving this 4.5 stars, leaning toward 5.

Lovecraft Country; I’ve been intending to read this for a while now and finally picked it up upon hearing that there will be an HBO series soon! It was a pretty solid read that combined horror with a commentary on racism, and I’m looking forward to the adaptation. 3.5 stars.

Burn Our Bodies Down; I ended up with a last-minute ARC of this and tore through it so quickly. It releases July 7th and I highly recommend y’all jump on pre-ordering it if you loved Wilder Girls and/or enjoy YA horror.

Up Next

This depends pretty strongly on the holds that come in next from my library, so we’ll see! But the following seem likely:

The City in the Middle of the Night; Another Hugo read! I ordered a copy from my local bookstore which I think will be here today?

Ducks, Newburyport; A WP Squad 2020 read that appears to be one of the next up on my holds list.

Supper Club: Same as above!

Let me know how your weeks went, hopefully well!

  2. I’m glad you liked Middlegame and Burn Our Bodies Down! (Both are on my TBR.) And I’ll be curious to see how you fare with all 3 of the books on your up next list- I *hope* you’ll end up liking Ducks, and I’ll be reading Supper Club soon as well! And City in the Middle of the Night sounded really good to me even though I didn’t get on as well with a previous book from the author. I hope you’ll have a great reading week ahead! 🙂

    1. My Supper Club hold literally came in 10 minutes ago! I -think- I’ll like Ducks and hopefully being so tentative about it will give me a better reading experience, haha. I didn’t like All the Birds in the Sky very much either BUT I’m ~60 pages into The City in the Middle of the Night and am really enjoying it so far so I’m holding out hope. 🙂
