Currently Reading
The Artist’s Way; This is my second time trying to get through this and I think it’ll go better because I plan to half-skim and only work through the things I feel will benefit me.
The New Jim Crow; Finally!
Mexican Gothic; I’m finding this kind of slow so far, but am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Recently Finished
The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion; Not a new fav, but definitely a fast and fun horror novella!
Beach Read; I loooooved this so much!
Upright Women Wanted; Super good, I’m hoping for a sequel.
Up Next
This depends pretty strongly on the holds that come in next from my library, so we’ll see! But the following seem likely:
Stamped from the Beginning; I really liked How to Be an Antiracist and am looking forward to getting more of a history lesson out of this one.
Kindred; I’ve heard such good things about this and have been meaning to read more Octavia E. Butler.
Let me know how your weeks went, hopefully well!
I’ve been so curious about The Artist’s Way! People seem to swear by it. Is it really so tough to get through? I’m interested to hear what you think of it.

it’s a little woo-woo-y, but i think if you only worry about what works for you it should be fine. the reason i find it tough to work through is that a lot of it hinges on exercises, so if i don’t take the time to do the exercises i can’t progress through the book, ha.

I would be the same though I think, I want to read the theories but I think I’d never do the exercises 😂 defeating the whole point, I suppose.

haha, right?! a good idea might be to read it all first and then do the exercises later on.

Amazing reading plans!! I am not convinced by Mexican Gothic, I reallyyyy wanted to read it earlier this year but after being a bit turned off by the writing style in Gods of Jade and Shadow, I lost any interest… but I’m seeing it everywhere and people just LOVING it makes me wonder if to pick it up after all. Looking forward to your review! It will surely help make up my mind.

i haven’t read anything else by this author, so i’m going in pretty cold! i’m worried the rave reviews had my expectations too high, but i’ve also heard the first 100 or so pages are a bit slow so hopefully it’ll pick up soon.

I’m glad you loved Beach Read! And I really want to read The New Jim Crow so I’ll be eager to see what you think of it. I also felt that Mexican Gothic started very slow, although the second half was worth it for me. I don’t want to oversell it but I hope the ending will pick up for you too. 🙂

that’s good to know, and others have been saying the same! The New Jim Crow is amazing so far and I’ve barely started it. I’m learning so much!

I read “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You” which is based off of “Stamped From the Beginning” and although it’s YA, I really liked it! At some point, I’d like to read the original, too. I’ve seen “Beach Reads” around and was wondering if it was any good; I just added it to my Want to Read on Goodreads.
