Blog All Day, Meme All Night [tag]

Ally @ Ally Writes Things was kind enough to tag me in this, which I am FINALLY getting around to after, oh, 4 months? Sorry Ally! Regardless, I love memes so this is a great tag.

1. YEET – which book would you yeet out of existence?

Okay, I know I’m in the minority on this but I REALLY did not like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Sorry (not sorry)!

2. CRYING KIM K – which book gives you lots of feelings?

Girl Made of Stars made me cry for probably an hour straight. Big mega feels.

3. AMERICA, EXPLAIN – favourite book set outside the US?

The Vegetarian is one of my all-time favs and it’s set in South Korea. I need to pick up more of Han Kang’s work asap.

4. RIP VINE – your saddest character death?

In recent memory, the deaths at the end of The Song of Achilles are very very sad.

5. WHAT ARE THOSE? – a book that left you confused?

I’m so sorry, but I just don’t Get Paper Girls, and it was sooo confusing to me. I tried reading Vol. 2 but that didn’t help. 😦

6. BIG DICK ENERGY – favourite character with BDE?

Could the answer be anyone else except Sadie? Although, I did like Ally’s choice of Evelyn Hugo.

7. I WON’T HESITATE BITCH – favourite book with a morally grey protagonist?

Definitely Kaz from Six of Crows. He is the MOST morally grey.

8. MOVE, I’M GAY – favourite book featuring a lgbtq+ romance

I had to pick The Raven King just because I read it so recently and Adam and Noah’s kiss was UGH PERFECT.

9. STREET SMARTS – favourite book featuring a protagonist whose strength is their intelligence?

It Devours! features a main character who is a woman of color and a scientist and her strength is most definitely her intelligence!

10. ALEXA PLAY DESPACITO – character death you were happy about?

Magic Brian in The Adventure Zone, but mostly because it was so funny!

11. THEN PERISH – a book you DNFed?

I’m not afraid to DNF whenever necessary, but I just could not push myself through The Snowman.

12. KERMIT SIPPING TEA – a book that makes a statement?

The Body is Not an Apology! It’s all about self-love.

13. SAME HAT – the character you relate to the most?

Okay, this is non-fiction but I’ve been having a LOT of health issues soo I’ve been meaning to reread Ask Me About My Uterus.

14. OH WORM – a book you didn’t expect to love?

I thought i would like We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but I had no idea how much I’d LOOOVE it!

15. SHREK – favourite book featuring mythical creatures?

Basically everything by Tamora Pierce!!

I’m a bit tired, so I’m not going to tag anyone but let me know if you decide to do this! 🙂

The Sunshine Blogger Award #2

I was nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award by Rachel (who also nominated me last time!).

Rachel’s questions:

What’s the worst book you had to read for school?
This is going to sound like a cop out answer, but I don’t know! I can’t remember books that I’ve disliked reading for school, although I’m sure they exist.

Within your own country, where would you most like to visit that you haven’t already been?
San Francisco! It seems like such a nice place and I actually wanted to move there for a while.

What’s the best first line of a book you’ve ever read?
I have a really bad memory for stuff like this. Again, I cannot remember.

Do you have any tattoos and do you want any?
I have four (I keep forgetting and saying I have three, though)! There are definitely more I want, but I’m still deciding. Here are my current ones:

If you watch booktube, who’s your favorite booktuber?  If you don’t watch booktube, what’s your favorite thing to watch on youtube?
I’m an ASMR fiend. I find the videos so relaxing and try to watch them most nights before bed. My favorites are Sophie Michelle and Karuna Satori.

Which classic do you think more people should read?
The Stranger! I’m not big on classics but I enjoyed it, and it’s pretty quick.

What would you consider the most overhyped and the most underhyped book you’ve read in the last year?
Overhyped: Gone GirlUnderhyped: The Pisces, 10000%.

Would you like to work in the publishing industry, or do you prefer to keep books and reading strictly a hobby?
Part of me would like to, but I do think it would have a negative impact on my love of reading.

If you’re a writer, which author’s style do you think is most similar to your own?  If you’re not a writer, which author’s style do you connect with the most as a reader?
I think I really connect with Joe Hill’s style, which is why he’s one of my favorite writers. I just find myself so immersed in his stories.

What’s your least favorite book cover?
I don’t even know how to begin to answer this. Since I recently read The Woman in Black and had to deal with the very bad movie cover, I’ll have to say most movie tie-in covers.

Who’s your favorite actor/celebrity?
My fav celebrity is Griffin McElroy, he’s an angel and he and his wife are honestly relationship goals.

My questions:

  1. Do you listen to any podcasts? If so, what are your favorites?
  2. Do you genre hop when you read or do you tend to stick to the same genres?
  3. What’s the best movie you’ve watched so far this year?
  4. Earbuds or over-ear headphones?
  5. What’s your favorite way to treat yourself?
  6. Do you have a hobby that not a lot of people know about?
  7. Tea, coffee, or hot chocolate?
  8. What’s your favorite kind of weather?
  9. What’s your favorite mythical creature?

  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award
  • Ask them 3 questions

Steph’s Questions:

What is the lock screen and home screen on your phone? (I’m just curious)

Lock screen is my roommate’s cat and home screen is… my roommate’s cat. Different pictures. I just love this cat a lot, okay??

What’s something you were really into/obsessed with when you were a kid?

HORSES. I was THE horse girl. Also books, obviously. 😉

What was the best birthday you’ve had?

Last year! I threw a party at my apartment and most of my favorite people were there and there was pizza and drinks and youtube karaoke and lots of laughs. I’ll cherish that party forever. 🙂

Rachel’s Questions:

Where’s the farthest place from home that you’ve traveled to?

Mexico! I went for a few hours once while we were staying in San Diego visiting family.

What is your favorite fictional relationship?  Either romantic or platonic.

Potential spoilers for Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom and The Raven Cycle ahead???

I am currently OBSESSED with Jesper and Wylan right now. And Blue/Gansey also destroys me.

Please let me know if you do this so I can see your answers!

Burn, rewrite, reread [tag]

This is such a fun tag! Thank you to Anna @ Reading Peaches for tagging me!

What you have to do is: randomise your read shelf on goodreads, choose first 3 books & then decide which one and why you want to burn, to rewrite & to reread.

1. White Oleander | Coraline | Night Watch
Burn:
Night Watch, I just couldn’t get into it
Rewrite: White Oleander, it was great but I love Coraline too much to rewrite it!
Reread: Coraline

589836

2. The Secret Life of Bees | The Miseducation of Cameron Post | Ender’s Game
Burn:
Oh no this is so difficult… The Secret Life of Bees. Mostly because I read it so long ago that I don’t remember much of it.
Rewrite:
The Miseducation of Cameron Post, rewrite it to make me cry less pls.
Reread:
Ender’s Game, by no means perfect but hey.

375802

3. Empress of the World | Lord of the Flies | The Carnivorous Carnival
Burn:
Empress of the World was lovely in theory, but I didn’t enjoy the writing at all.
Rewrite: Lord of the Flies, I remember loving this but I haven’t read it in ages and I can’t rewrite Lemony Snicket, sorry!
Reread: The Carnivorous Carnival.

324277

4. The Wide Window | The Little Book of Hygge | A Clash of Kings
Burn:
The Little Book of Hygge. Sorry! I know people love this, but it felt like something that could have been condensed into an essay rather than written as a whole book imo.
Rewrite: A Clash of Kings, I love this book but like I said–can’t rewrite Snicket!
Reread: The Wide Window.

438492

5. The Subtle Knife | Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance | The Last Animal
Burn:
Y’all this is… literally the hardest one of the five. Burn The Last Animal, just because it’s the only one of the three without a five star rating from me (I’m so sososo sorry, baby).
Rewrite: Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance.
Reread: The Subtle Knife.

Anything but books [tag]

Very exciting, my first tag that I’ve actually been tagged in! The lovely Wendy over at what the log had to say tagged me for this one. 🙂

Name a cartoon that you love.
There are probably lots of way better ones, but the first one that comes to mind is Superjail! It was one of my favorite shows in high school. I just love that no matter how many times you watch it, you’ll always see something new. Even though it’s wildly offensive and inappropriate. Very problematic.

What is your favourite song right now?
“St. Joe Keeps Us Safe” by Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties. UGH, my HEART.

What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?
Netflixing! Although it’s been harder for me to watch TV for extended periods of time lately. I’d also say walking and listening to podcasts.

What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?
I love to go horseback riding!! I used to be an avid rider, but I had a really bad fall and haven’t done it in years and years. I hope that when I start making more money I’ll be able to start back up again.

What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?
Cephalopods!! My little babies in the ocean.

What is something unusual that you know how to do?
I don’t know how unusual it is, but I kind of know how to longboard!

Image may contain: one or more people

Name something you made last year and show us if you can.
A nautilus doodle!

No automatic alt text available.

What is your most recent personal project?
Honestly? This blog!

Tell us something you think about often.
Besides books? Tattoos.

Give us something that is your favourite.
When the weather is perfect and you feel nice and happy and you’re curled up with a book in the sun.

Say the first thing that pops into your head.
I feel weird not using images with the last few questions, but I didn’t really have much to fit them!

I tag: whoever would like to do this next! It was fun. 🙂
